The Idea
What sparks it? For me it can be anything. I can be sitting at work, minding my own business and bam an idea hits me and I have to write it down
so I don’t lose it. Or I could be in the car listing to the radio or a cd and there’s an idea. One time I was driving under this bridge that I’ve driven under many times before, only this time I got an idea and asked, what if.
I think the words What If are two of the best friends a writer can have.
Okay, let me talk about my idea. I was driving my son to school and there is a bridge that goes over the road for a train. This time as I came closer to the bridge I thought, what if it collapsed. Yes, I know, that is a morbid, but I thought it. Good thing I got to work fast so I could put down a couple ideas.
Another night I was driving to the story and I had this great idea and…and…and by the time I got home, the idea was gone. Nothing, zip, zilch, nada. I kept telling myself that I needed a notebook in the car. After that night, I made sure I had one. It’s been a life saver, because I have to tell you…I get a LOT of ideas while I’m driving. lol
A different way to get ideas is by looking at pictures. Well, I had the perfect picture for one of the heroes in my story about the collapsing bridge and I thought I’d share. He is just so handsome and raw. Sometimes I just go looking. I know I like to go to istock and look for my characters.
So…ideas. Who has some?
