Romance…
I’m a teacher so summers are my time to catch up and do all the things I don’t have time to do during the school year. One of those things is going to the movies. I just don’t go very often, so in summer, I seem to make up for it all in one fell-swoop. So far I’ve seen Eclipse and Despicable Me. Loved both of them. When thinking of a topic for this post I decided to share a list of my favorite romantic movies with you.
As a teenager, two movies topped my list and I watched them over and over and over!
I must have seen this in the theater at least seven times! ”Nobody puts Baby in the corner.” I still miss Patrick Swayze! What a hunky guy and man, could he dance! I got chills every time they fired up “I’ve Had the Time of my Life” and he and Jennifer Grey started the big finale number. Sigh. How many times did I wish I was the girl running and leaping into his arms in that flowy dress!
Yeah, I’ll admit it. My life long ambition has been to be Julia Roberts. I mean JEEZ! What hot Hollywood actor hasn’t she kissed on the silver screen or been engaged to for a short time. LOL. This was, hands-down, an unlikely pairing. I mean Richard Gere–seriously? But for some reason, it worked. And I loved it. Favorite part? When he rides up in the limo, like a knight on a horse and whisks her away.
As I’ve entered adulthood, I’m ashamed to say my taste in romantic movies probably hasn’t evolved much! The sappier, the better for me. Notting Hill, You’ve Got Mail, 50 First Dates, When Harry Met Sally, and 10 Things I Hate about You (Heath–sob) are all on the list.
Bridget Jones’s Diary.
Bridget is way up on the list for me. Loved the books, love the movie–how often does that happen? And we should all have her problems. Gee…Hugh Grant or Colin Firth, Hugh Grant or Colin Firth. It’s a shame Hollywood hasn’t embraced the concept of threesomes. I sort of think that would have been a good answer to the Edward, Bella, Jacob triangle as well as the Ranger, Joe, Stephanie Plum issue…but I digress!
Okay, I’m just going to come out and say it…this is hands-down my favorite movie of all-time. I mean it’s got it all! Amnesia, comedy, millionaires, bad kids, quirky butler, big dogs, and Spagettio Surprise. Plus Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have a chemistry that’s off the charts! This movie is my ultimate escape and even after 4382943743209 viewings, I still laugh.
So…what romantic movies would be on your list?
