Sangria Recipe
I’ve just finished a fabulous Labor Day party (we had it today so we can recover tomorrow,) and I’m going to share with you my fabulous, precise, Sangria recipe.
Take three bottles of cheap wine from Trader Joe’s and pour into a pot. It has to be Spanish wine…or wine with Spanish on the label. Close enough.
Add cut up lemons, oranges, limes, and apples. Add both red and green apples, mostly because you never figured out if the Sangria at your favorite restaurant uses red apples or if the wine turns green apples red.
Now that you have your basic wine and fruit, start adding the other booze.
First, check 5 million on-line recipes, read the comments on the recipes by users, and value-weight those recipes based on the grammatical skills of the poster. Now that you’ve narrowed down the additions to gin, light rum, dark rum, brandy and vodka, assembles bottles of all these. Next step is to stare pensively at the pot.
When pensive staring gets you nowhere, start taking shots. After all, it’s a holiday
After sucking a bit of leftover lime to counteract the nauseating taste of rum chased with vodka, you will realize that clearly you must add light rum and brandy. You will also realise you are a secret mixologist genius along the lines of whoever invented the martini. Yay you!
Add brandy brandy first, by guestimation, you are too cool for measuring.
Next put a healthy amount of clear rum in a bowl and add half a cup of sugar. Stir the sugar until it dissolves. Except it won’t dissolve. Make a gin and tonic, garnished with left-over orange, and re-read one of the million recipes while sipping. Having confirmed that the sugar should dissolve in the rum, continue stirring for as long as patience permits.
Decide that though you are a mixology genious you hate making drinks and will never do it again. Refresh gin and tonic and sip.
DO NOT MICROWAVE BOWL OF RUM AND SUGAR TO HASTEN DISSOLVING! Doing so would result in noxious fumes permeating the household.
Take the (un-microwaved) rum and sugar, pour into sangria. Dump the remaining of gin and tonic in.
Stir, add ice, and serve!
