Darragha’s Independence Day Celebration

Darragha Foster wrote this in the wee hours:

July 24th is my “best day.” July 24th is the day I regained my soul, found my true love and embraced the mystic law. All in a five minute period on July 24, 1988!

I’ve blogged about my experience before. In fact, because this day is so significant to me, I blog about it every year. July 24th is very special, indeed.

This year only adds to the significance due to a recent conversation I had with my sister-in-law. She lives in Florida and was visiting Washington State where we live just in time for my husband’s birthday (July 19th). My husband, my mate from the infinite past, my true love and best friend, is also Buddhist. Every day since he began his practice of this Buddhism (over 20 years ago), he has chanted to end the karmic cycle of abuse and death in his family. His mother was murdered when he was five. An estranged boyfriend shot her to death in her own front year, in front of two of her four children–including my husband.

My husband was later kidnapped by a former step-mother because he was worth $199.00 a month in Social Security benefits–must have seemed like a fortune in the early 1970’s. His father suffered from pervasive depression and was unable to pull himself out of his chair to find his son. It was his sister who found him (several states away) and began the process to get him home. In 1994, my husband lost an adult cousin and her two children to a horrific auto accident. Only three years prior the same cousin had been critically injured in another accident wherein her baby son was killed. See why my husband chants to end his family’s karmic suffering?

As we sat in our dining room, enjoying each other’s company, my sister-in-law came out with an incident that happened to her July 19, 2008. She owns a restaurant and catering business in Florida. Apparently some thieves figured that she has lots of money. They stormed over her fence, into her yard and knocked her to the ground, with a gun to her head. She figured she was going to die the same way her mother did. Of a gunshot wound, in her own yard. Then my sister-in-law became angry. She told the thieves that if they were going to shoot her, they couldn’t do it on her brother’s birthday. Then she decided she didn’t want to die like her mother had. The thieves made it pretty clear they intended to kill her.

Then, like guardian angels, her neighbors swarmed her yard and scared off the thieves. Neighbors from two blocks away, who just happened to notice something was wrong.

One year later I’m overjoyed to share that my sister-in-law was sitting with me in my dining room on July 19, 2009, sharing this story with us. She hadn’t been able to share it before.

I immediately saw proof of my husband’s prayers. His prayers had changed his family karma. Instead of his sister being shot and killed, she had been saved by neighbors acting as protective functions of the universe. His most heartfelt prayer had been answered.

That is why I love July 24th. It resonates with actual proof of my faith and reminds me that my prayers affect everyone. I pray every day for my readers, fans and fellow authors to overcome any economic hardships in their lives, to be filled with robust good health and for them to be fulfilled in love. That is independence to me.

Read the previous posts (from July, 2008 and July, 2007) at your leisure. As an addendum, should you read my past 7/24 blogs, I’d like to state that I am now reacquainted with my former husband via Facebook. He’s sober and has mellowed out some in the years since our marriage (1983-1988). I’m happy for him and can see that my prayers for him have also been answered.

For visiting with me today–my independence day anniversary–I’m giving away some very special prizes. Seven ebooks from seven different authors. Katriena Knights, Tina Holland, Shelly Munroe, Sharon Cullen, Jeanne Barrack, Mary Winter and myself are all donating an ebook to the cause.

Seven winners will be drawn at random from all who post below on July 24th.

Thank you…and Happy Independence Day!

See…the power of prayer is pretty damned inclusive when one’s EX-HUSBAND posts on your blog.

    Wow.

  19. Mary Lou Loyanich Says:

Most of us, I think, have no way to be sure that our prayers, or affirmations as some say, have any effect. Ever. But it only takes one person to speak out, as you have, Darr, for us to know the power each of us may have. Not only am I encouraged to continue to offer up prayers, but from now on I shall claim July 24 as MY personal Independence Day, because of your tale.
