Maximize your time online

Jeanne St. James wrote this in the wee hours:

As a writer, I find that the Internet tends to be a time suck. I am guilty of spending too much time online and not writing. One solution is to consolidate all of your online stops on one page to save yourself time. This is not just advice for writers, everyone is really busy nowadays.

Save time online by using my.yahoo.com or iGoogle. You can make it your homepage very easily. On that page you can:

Add RSS feeds (What is an RSS feed?) from your favorite blogs or Twitter account or favorite websites/news sites, so you can see if anything on there catches your attention. And you can even preview the article. Saves time from having to visit EACH site to see the new content.

Add your email accounts so you can preview the all your emails (I have multiple email accounts) in one place.

Add gadgets like weather, news, to-do lists, calendars, thesauruses, dictionaries, even fun things like quotes, jokes, writing prompts, etc. You can delete and add these gadgets as you need them.

Add your social networks like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.

You can personalize it with themes, too.

I use my.yahoo.com. On my page, I have the RSS feeds of several editor and publisher blogs as well as blogs on writing. I have the Steelers season schedule (Go Steelers!), my Gmail, my Yahoo mail, several news feeds, an editor’s Twitter feed, my stock portolio, my Netflix queue, the local weather and a feed from my Passionate Ink online forum (an RWA chapter). It’s a busy page and I also have added some additional tabs, like a football page. I have a lot of pertinent information in one spot in which I can peruse quickly to see if there is anything I need to read.

I hope you find these tips helpful! I know that this has nothing to do with my Liquid Silver Books release, Banged Up, but being organized sure helps me getting writing done.
Banged Up CoverSpeaking of Banged Up, it is NOW available here. It is getting some great reviews! To find out more about me or my books (I have two more releasing soon) please stop by my blog at http://jeannestjames.blogspot.com or my website at http://www.jeannestjames.com. You can read blurbs, excerpts and more!
