1.
What are you looking for?
We are looking for titles
which push the envelope in romantic writing. The sexual relationship
between the characters within the book is of huge importance, but
so is the basic story. We are looking for stories of a man and woman
who make a commitment to each other and a "happy ever after".
We are especially looking
for manuscripts in the following areas: Paranormal, Fantasy, Dark
Fantasy, Vampire, Science Fiction, Contemporary and Historical.
We want to see strong stories, stories which could stand on their
own if the sex was omitted. However, by the addition of explicit
sex throughout the book, the entire work then takes on a titillating
aura from beginning to end.
The subjects which are
taboo for us which include, bestiality, pedophilia and our definition
of pornography. If you are unsure in any way of the content within
your book, please feel free to write to us and run those ideas by
us - we'll let you know ! If you have read Robin Schone, Beatrice
Small, or Susan Johnson's novels , these are good examples of what
we are looking for. Our contact address is raven@liquidsilverbooks.com
Research has shown us
that this market is comprised primarily of women. Women who desire
to explore and escape to their fantasies. For this reason, we believe
the vast majority of submissions will be by women authors. However,
we are not closing the door to men who can also portray these same
elements in their writing.
2.
Will my book be edited?
Yes, most definitely.
Although we do expect your submission to be self-edited for grammar
and spelling, the title is assigned to an editor who will work with
you to polish it for publication. We will not change your story,
but help you to make it shine.
3. Can I use my own
cover art?
There is a definite look
and feel that we want for our covers. We believe that with ebooks,
a wonderful cover is of huge importance. In this genre, we have
even a stronger conviction of this. Our cover artists will be in
touch with you to get your ideas and the feeling for your book.
However, he/she will be the one to create the cover and at this
time we are limiting this to their creative output only.
4. What percentage
of royalties do you pay?
We pay 40% of retail,
download sales from our site which is paid on a quarterly calendar
basis. For royalties on sales made through distribution channels,
40% of net proceeds will be paid, again, on a quarterly calendar
basis.
5. Will I be expected
to promote my book?
Yes, you will. You will
know your book better than anyone and having a web site and actively
participating in your own promotion will increase your readership
which of course increases sales :) We will query for three reviews
and promote our site and titles as a whole along with getting the
titles into as many distribution channels and formats that is possible.
Just about all of the romance review sites which we know of do indeed
review erotica, so there are plenty of places to go for reviews.
6. What can I expect
in sales?
Boy, this is a hard one.
If you have been in this industry for a while you know that ebooks
have been slow to take off. They will, we believe they will and
stand by that, but the industry has moved slower than what was anticipated.
However, there are various genres and sub-genres which are doing
well and erotica romance is one of those. Along with that, throw
in a vampire, shape-shifter, time travel, or any other paranormal,
and it is more than hot. Fantasy and Science Fiction have been high
on the list also.
More than likely this
will be the trend for the foreseeable future. All of the other genres
will come along, but the above have proven to be the best place
to be.
Normal ebook sales have
varied. Some titles will sell a few hundred in a year, some sell
three or four (and those who sell three or four have done absolutely
no self promotion). Yet, it depends on the genre...mainstream fiction,
mystery, adventure...they have been on the back burner.
We have high aspirations
for the sales of Liquid Silver books. We want to see our authors
do well and keep writing for us! Much of it is going to depend on
the following that you build. Name recognition (even if it isn't
your real name) is key. Promoting the name more so than the actual
book, is the best route.
7. What other distribution
channels for my book will there be?
We will distribute via
the channels which accept erotica literature. Most of the present
distribution channels that we use at Atlantic Bridge will also accept
erotica.
8. Will my book be
in print?
Print is an option which we can easily
adapt at Liquid Silver due to the fact we have a POD printer in
place and being used through Atlantic
Bridge. Plans now include producing full length novels in print.
However, novellas will remain as eBooks only, unless combined with
other novellas.
The reasons are simple. We are foremost
an ePublisher and one which believes the market will continue to
grow for ebooks. It is our prime focus. We also believe that in
publishing literary erotica romance in ebook formats, along with
distributing them via online ebookstores, we will have a good size
market.
These books will be aimed toward women
and the research we have done indicates that women are looking for
books such as the ones we will carry. By providing a place on the
Internet for women to browse, select and download their choices
without hunting or even asking for erotica romances at brick and
mortar bookstores, we are providing a service and fulfilling a need
in the market.
