I'm really proud of my daughter! She took second place in Hunt Seat Equitation today! Video of the ride (with music...I love windows movie maker) and her being announced as "ribboning" are here.

Good? Yes.
A huge relief that she stayed on, ribboned and was happy with her ride? Yes!

I am so thankful that I am not a soccer mom! I am a horse mom! I read an ebook on my handheld inbetween classes and then my husband and I slipped out to a near-by casino while the Western Pleasure classes were going on.

Give your daughter my congrats! I didn't show that much, but it was fun. Especially on
hunt seat competitions.

The judging is complex. Did you notice how perfectly tall and straight my kid sat in the saddle during the transitions from walk to trot to cantor and back to walk? That's one.

Required elements (clothing, saddle, bit, etc.), posture, hand position, knees, ankles, legs, how the rider posts (moves in the saddle)...it goes on and on and on.

PS The black horse is not ours. He's an old school horse--and very, very well-trained. His name is Magumba. Our horse is white and names Kayak. And he is not trained well enough for "class" shows yet. He does "Dirty or Hungry Horse" shows, where the rules aren't as strict.
