Professional Editing, Proofing, Art and Production
Your romance book will go thru four main quality improvement stages at Liquid Silver Books. The story is yours, the finished published book is ours--you and us together. Our main focus is to improve you as a writer and to provide the best possible finished product for your readers.
1. Submission Your first three chapters are reviewed by our Acquisitions Director. She may request the full book for LSB owner Raven Moore, or she may reject your sub. If you can tell a good story, you're at least half-way there. What often happens is that the Acquisitions Director returns your book with constructive criticism on how to improve it before resubmitting. Learn from her many years experience as an award-winning author and seasoned editor and you will improve your writing. 2. Editing Our editors all pass an editing test and earn royalties on the sales of your book, so you can expect and will receive a professional and thorough service from them. Expect to spend about 3-6 weeks in the editing process, depending on the length and complexity of your story. First-time authors may take longer. Once you sign the contract, our Editorial Director will assign you an editor who will work exclusively with you until your editing is finished. Your book will typically go thru 2-3 revision cycles between both of you. Editing is the core of the quality improvement processes so it is important that you are prepared to listen and learn, and not be inclined to dig your heels in too much If you prefer your story to remain largely untouched, then you might be better suited by another publisher.3. Proofing Your edited work goes to a separate proofer. Every one of our proofers have passed a tough test, which rejects over 80% of applicants, before being accepted. Their job is to catch typos, wrong word usage, and narrative inconsistencies--they do not change your language or 'voice'. The Editorial Director reviews the returned proof, accepts or rejects suggested changes, and contacts the author about any issues raised by the proofer. 4. Production The finished proof of your romance book goes thru about 200 checks and steps before it is ready for publishing. This largely automated process is designed to correct all the little inconsistencies which creep into a book which has been passed back and forth between at least seven--and probably more--people during its gestation. At this stage, we think we've seen almost every quirk which can appear in a book file--yeah I know, famous epilogue Each automated check was developed from manually identifying and solving all the little glitches over the years.Artwork - your Romance Book Cover This part is easy to write. Just click the link to see our romance book covers. Click "New Releases" on the menu there to see the most recent ones, or browse the genres for a much larger sample. Like the editors, all our artists earn royalties on sales and provide a commensurate level of professional and quality service. You will receive a detailed cover art questionnaire when your book is contracted, and our Art Director will assign the most suitable artist to render your vision and reflect the essence of your story. Summary During the typical 3-4 month publishing cycle, your book will be read or scanned in full by at least five different professionals at Liquid Silver Books. We consistently see significant improvement in the writing skills of first-time authors who submit second and more books. While polishing the content of your romance story is the heart of our work, we also pay a lot of attention to its appearance with good artwork and strict production standards. You almost certainly will not have any problems with the quality of the finished result. Any questions, just hit the "Reply" button
